It’s amazing what can be done in three weeks. We’ve been quite busy fleshing out the plans we had for our travels later in the year. We’ll be travelling with a friend and thought it would be good to do some of the more detailed planning with her. So, for the last couple of weeks we’ve had three shoulders at the wheel, or more accurately – three noses in the books & three hands on the mice (yay! for the interwebs). We’ve managed to do some more thorough investigation of the travel route, as well as organise & book lots of accommodation. It’s interesting corresponding by email with B&Bs & waiting for responses, much different from using a website like HostelWorld. On the way there’ll be a few places we’ve been to before, but we’ll enjoying them again before passing through to stop at other places. I’ve made a Google Map of the planned itinerary and will probably upload a screen shot of that later.
It’s been a challenge at times to fit some special places in the itinerary, but overall it’s looking good. A problem is still the railways in Italy as we can’t confirm the timetable so far out – but we can make a best guess, & be able sort things out closer to the time we leave…
Sorting all this out made for a lot of fun and a developing sense of excitement as we discussed the cities/towns we wanted to visit and the sights we wanted to see. All we have left to do now is find a couple of nights of accommodation and figure out how to get from Barcelona back to Rome in a day – flying looks the go…
I’m looking forward to soaking up the Italian culture and way of life (now that I’ve come to appreciate it more) and learning more through being close to the history and cultural development of the continent. Sicily will be special – with an ancient history full of influences from many cultural traditions. Barcelona will also be a highlight as we’ll be stopping there for over a week to take part in a conference workshop that will be refreshing & stimulating. So, lots of things to see & experience as well as soaking up the local hospitality & gastronomic delights.
Ciao
